Well, this week's blog posting will not have any photos from this week; rather we will see photos from the week before. I wasn't exactly in the room this week (Thanks to Mrs. Frawley and Mrs. Marilyn for teaching everyone while I was assessing!), so I didn't have a chance to snap any photos. We did continue learning about insects, particularly lady bugs. We finished up the week with a fun craftivity making an Entemologist holding a drawing of our favorite bug. What's an Entemologist you ask? Let's just say it is a scientist who studies bugs!
Here is our recap from the week before:
We studied the butterfly life cycle, then recreated it on our own worksheets.
We learned that butterfly wings are symmetrical. And, then we learned what symmetrical means...
We put together a big puzzle of the Hungry Caterpillar during centers
We listened to a great story during our listening center, then we completed a quick book review form about the story.
Of course, we had time to work on our sight words
Here's another happy student looking for sight words!
Here is a student playing our spin-a-sight-word game.
Mrs. Doyle, our librarian, came in to read us a story about a beautiful butterfly.
Senora came in for our Spanish class, and of course we had fun!
Here we are playing a rousing game of around the world during Spanish. It's a fun way to practice our colors!
We did a lot of cutting...
and gluing!
We created an underwater art piece resembling the art of Matisse.
We hope these masterpieces are hanging somewhere special in your house!
Voila!
Well, that will do it for me! I am pretty exhausted after this busy week, but we are looking forward to a great week coming up! We will begin the week with a celebration of reading and of Dr. Seuss! There will be a fun Kinder Club on Monday in honor of Dr. Seuss and his many books. In fact, there are so many things we can do to celebrate this memorable author that we will spread the festivities out over the entire week!
Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Please join us for our Ash Wednesday prayer service on, well, Wednesday. This weekend would be a good time to discuss what your entire family can do in this time of preparation for the death and resurrection of our Lord. Traditionally, most practicing Catholics give up a bad habit for the 40 days, or take on a new healthy habit. I've know a few families to do something as simple as remember to prayer together before dinner, or go so far as to say a decade of the rosary together each night. I may be thinking of something regarding the elliptical machine in my bonus room that has been collecting dust... I also like to take time during Lent to go through my closet and find some nice clothes to donate to Catholic charities.
Catholics also abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent (but young children, expecting mothers, and the elderly do not have to follow these rules). Wednesday is also a day of fasting for adults, hence, this Tuesday is known as Fat Tuesday, so we can "fatten up" before a day of fasting! We will end the week on a half-day (another half day!), along with an all-school mass hosted by the 2nd Grade.
Our share this week will be things that begin with the letter S... like Seuss! What a nice coincidence!
Enjoy the rainy weekend! Take care, drive safely, and see you on Monday!
~Ms. Hudson
